Thermal Hydraulics Design Limits

نویسنده

چکیده

The following discussion of PWR steady state and transient design limits is extracted from the theses of Carter Shuffler and Jarrod Trant while the BWR discussion is extracted from Paolo Ferroni's thesis (covers steady state only). These limits are a simplified and narrower discussion than the relevant NRC standard review plan you will also be referred to. All materials are directly extracted from these theses so that the cited references which appear in this note must be tracked if you have interest by going to the relevant theses.

Thermal-Hydraulics analysis of pressurized water reactor core by using single heated channel model

Thermal hydraulics of nuclear reactor as a basis of reactor safety has a very important role in reactor design and control. The thermal-hydraulic analysis provides input data to the reactor-physics analysis, whereas the latter gives information about the distribution of heat sources, which is needed to perform the thermal-hydraulic analysis. In this study single heated channel model as a very f...

UWFDM-827 Overview of the US-ITER Magnet Shield: Concept and Problems

The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) is designed to operate in two phases; physics and technology. The prime function of the shield is to protect the TF magnets. The predominant radiation limits are the nuclear heat load to the magnet and the end-of-life dose to the electrical insulator. These limits are specified by the magnet designers as 65 kW and 5×109 rads. Detailed ...

Status Report on SHARP Coupling Framework

This report presents the software engineering effort under way at ANL towards a comprehensive integrated computational framework (SHARP) for high fidelity simulations of sodium cooled fast reactors. The primary objective of this framework is to provide accurate and flexible analysis tools to nuclear reactor designers by simulating multiphysics phenomena happening in complex reactor geometries. ...

The effect of fuel thermal conductivity on the behavior of LWR cores during loss-of-coolant accidents

The effect of variation in thermal conductivity of light water reactor fuel elements on core response during loss-of-coolant accident scenarios is examined. Initially, a simplified numerical analysis is utilized to determine the time scales associated with dissipation of stored energy from the fuel into the coolant once the fission reaction is stopped. The analysis is then followed by full reac...

ARIES-RS divertor system selection and analysis

The ARIES-RS divertor system is selected and analyzed. A radiative divertor approach using Ne as the radiator is chosen to reduce the maximum heat flux to B6 MW m. A 2 mm W layer is used to withstand surface erosion allowing a design life close to 3 full-power-years. This W coating on the V-alloy structure is castellated to meet structural design limits. A detailed description of the calculated...
